Local 2401 Rallies for Telework!
Apr 12, 2022

AFSCME Local 2401 members and community groups showed up and showed out on April 6 as District workers spoke truth to power and put DCHR, Mayor Bowswer, and the District Council on notice that we need and demand expanded telework options. It was a good turnout for a first rally, with over 70 people signing in as they arrived. The rally began at Freedom Plaza, directly across Pennsylvania Ave from the Wilson Building where the Mayor and Council have their offices. The crowd heard speeches from Local 2401 leadership, from community human rights groups, and from or sisters and brothers from another AFSCME local.

Speakers demanded telework options be continued and expanded to enhance public safety and keep our workers safe from COVID, which continues to ravage the country. They also pointed out that productivity and morale actually increased during the full telework schedule due to the COVID outbreak.

The crowd then marched across Penn to picket in front of the Wilson Building for chants and shouting to demand change!

Many thanks to the members who came out, the stewards who helped make this great rally happen, and to our awesome guests: Felicia Dantzler from AFSCME Local 2743, Yasemin Zahra from U.S. Labor Against Racism and War https://www.facebook.com/LaborFightsBack/  and Michael Bearman from the ANSWER Coalition https://www.answercoalition.org/
