AFSCME Local 2401 Honors the Memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Many call for today's holiday to be a day of service to others, which is one of Dr. King's great lessons. But let's not forget the "reason for the season" in that Dr. King called for collective action and speaking truth to power against a system that fundamentally oppressed, and still oppresses, millions of people right here in the US and around the world. Oppression in the form of poverty and lack of opportunity, misplaced priorities of war and militarism, a school-to-prison pipeline for all People of Color continues decades after Dr. King showed us how to fight and win in the streets. Let's all celebrate the King Memory by making 2024 a year in which we honor his work, and the sacrifices of so many others over the decades, by taking to the streets in protest! There's still plenty of fight left!
